Affective Growth Area
I strongly believe I identify with
the affective growth area. As a new educator, I feel supported with my team.
While I was creating my concept map for this week, I noticed I had more
information about my “current colleagues.” This is the area where I feel most
supported and stronger. I have a mentor teacher who has helped in the past
year. We reflect together and I have learned to learn from mistakes. At the
beginning of my teaching career, I thought everything had to be perfect.
However, these two years I have learned that sometimes things will not be
perfect or work out in my classroom, and there is always room for growth.
Additionally, I have a coach who helps me with strategies and observes me to
see where I can grow as an educator. With my coach teacher, I feel emotionally
supported and I feel more confident when I teach new materials. My coach
teacher always helps by providing great resources: websites, graphic
organizers, and even this great peer review website where my students grade other students, they answer questions using
multiple choice, rating their classmates' papers, and more. Thanks to all her
support I have gained confidence when I teach.
Growth Area
The growth area that I need to
have more experience with is social media. I only have an Instagram where I
follow other educators to learn from their teaching experiences and
strategies. I would like to grow in this area by creating a Twitter
account where I can chat or follow other educators. I strongly believe this
class will give me the tools and confidence to use social media in my classroom
and to create more supportive communities.

Hello Jesenia! Its great that you have a mentor to help you grow as an educator. Its always a good idea to reflect on your teaching, which I find myself doing often. When we reflect on our teachings and take advice or ideas from other educators, we will grow as a teacher ourselves. I love how you're going out of your comfort zone with social media and making a twitter account. I have a teacher twitter but I am not always on it. However, when I am on it, I do see lots of different teachers being engaged with each other and sharing what goes on in their classroom. Definitely a great platform to learn from!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reflective post about your PLN, it's strengths and areas for growth. Understanding these makes it easier to address them. It sounds like you are on the right path and have strong support around you!
ReplyDeleteHi! Awesome post!!! I love how you said you have learned to learn from your mistakes! It really is such a process to learn how to learn from mistakes! Great way to phrase that! It's great that you have a teaching coach available who gives feedback and makes for feel supported emotionally. It is so important to have a strong community both online and in-person! It sounds like your in-person PLN is very strong and your online one is on that path! Awesome post and have a great week!
